Since it first entered the world of smartphones, Huawei has been one of the best in the business when it comes to mobile photography. Huawei handsets have always delivered some of the best image quality in the industry – particularly when it comes to color science.

So what makes Huawei’s camera technology so different from everybody else’s? The answer is Huawei XMAGE, a unique mobile photography system that has been developed through years of sustained investment, and built using optical systems, imaging technologies, and image processing.

Rather than just chasing megapixels, as so many other smartphone manufacturers are doing, Huawei continues to refine and redefine mobile photography through XMAGE – meaning that, for serious shooters, there’s only one brand that delivers the quality that photographers demand. There’s even the annual Huawei XMAGE Awards, that celebrates imaging excellence with over 4 million entries since its inception!

Color science is one of the most fundamental aspects of image quality – and an area where many brands in mobile photography have historically struggled. Huawei tackled this challenge head-on, striving to deliver the best color performance in the industry – and it culminated in the Huawei P40 Series, powered by the XD Fusion engine.

This sophisticated, proprietary technology analyzes and processes factors such as color, ambient light, dynamic range and detail at a pixel-by-pixel level, combining the power of the P40 hardware with computational photography software to optimize image quality and color accuracy.

And the company continues to invest in its extraordinary tech; its image color research team calls on experts from seven Huawei research centers worldwide, from as far afield as China, Finland, and Japan. Their research fields are not limited to color, but also encompass art, psychology and optics. In this way they combine the understanding of science with the understanding of culture, so that art can be driven – not limited – by technology.

Following in the footsteps of the P40, the manufacturer offers three flagship phones equipped with XMAGE technology: the Huawei P60 Series, Huawei Mate X3, and Huawei Mate 50 Series.

The P50 Series boasts a True-Chroma Image Engine, which produces true-to-life

Photos and astonishing color calibration, combined with its True-Chroma Display that promises color accuracy on par with professional monitors.

The P60 Series is powered by XD Fusion Pro’s bold-new texture engine, which precisely reproduces the details of subject and scene – so what you see is what you’ll get. It shares the robust color capabilities of the Huawei X-True Display with the Mate X3, which again puts the performance of pro monitors in your hands.

Continuing Huawei’s color brilliance, images can be shot in distinct styles. Original delivers accurate reproduction of colors and textures, for when photographers want to capture original colors in scenes like nature and wildlife. Vivid punches things up with saturated hues and higher contrast, perfect for sunsets or technicolor scenarios. And Bright is ideally suited for skin tones, creating vibrant photos with distinct layers, well suited for light and flattering portraiture.
